A jewelry business is a wonderful idea for a second income, raising money to go to college, or for retirees who want to earn extra cash selling something they love. However, once the obvious sources for growing a new business have been exploited, it can be difficult to keep it moving forward, which can cause some people to become a bit demotivated.
Here are ten great ways to keep things in that wonderful growth mode, and to keep a new business exciting and fresh!
Use Social Networking
Post info about your business on your Facebook or MySpace page, and post information about it to all your friends from time to time. Your jewelry wholesalers have new offerings all the time; this gives you a great reason to post! Make your posts brief, yet enticing. Make them curious, and they will come to you.
Use Local Bulletin Boards Such as CraigsList
Offer personal services such as matching jewelry to a special outfit or choosing pieces for a special occasion. Many people would rather go to a consultant that offers personalized services than a large, impersonal department store.
Incentivize Your Friends to Bring in New Customers
Offer them a percentage of your sales, a dinner, or any special gift that you believe will motivate them to help you. Use the power of your network to grow your business. Make lists of everyone you know, and you will be surprised at how wide your network really is.
Hold Home Parties
This is a great way to enjoy getting together with your friends and make some extra cash at the same time. Prepare a nice display of your jewelry, get your friends involved by allowing them to try on the jewelry, and offer incentives if they purchase that night. This is a tried and true method for increasing earnings.
Form a Joint Venture
Approach other companies with synergistic products. Have them display your products and offer them a cut of all sales created. Or, sell them some of your jewelry at a discount (making sure YOU maintain some profit margin) to sell in their stores. This is perfect if you have friends who own antique, perfume, cosmetics, or other small boutique stores with specialty products. Alternatively, you could print coupons and have your friends hand them out at their stores (and vice versa).
Start an eBay Store
eBay offers an easy-to-create store front that allows you to get great exposure for your products, and sell them at auction. eBay is used by millions of satisfied customers, and once you have an established track record (and good feedback), you will be a trusted member of the community.
Exhibit at Local Festivals
Showing your products at a local festival is a great way to tap into a new clientele, and enjoy the sunshine at the same time. Thousands throng to outdoor festivals every spring and summer, and fall harvest festivals are popular places to shop early for holiday gifts. If booth prices are prohibitive, consider sharing a space with another seller who offers products that are synergistic to yours, such as hats or scarves.
Create an Email Newsletter
Send this mailer to all your loyal customers with new product news, updates about your business, and coupons. They will forward it to their friends and your business will grow.
Hold a Raffle
Raffles create excitement, as everyone likes to win a prize. Announce the winners online, if you have no actual store front.
Wear Your Own Jewelry
When someone compliments you on your pieces, hand them a business card with contact info and let them know they can have one just like yours!
